Reason for revert:
There are a number of cases where this incorrectly hides the selection/insertion
handles in an editable node.

I do not think we should do this revert. There is a very simple fix that we
could push to M35 and look into a real fix for M36/trunk. It's an identified and
localized problem. See my comment on the bug for more information.
