@Nick: note can't do this on Android yet because of crbug.com/601184 (ref. email
discussion in Sep2015, Android explicitly needs to set the initial binding...
which may be wrong because of issue 560446 =S!)

Either way, landing this with the ifdef as it's no worse than before (experiment
was Windows only).
