Something tangential to put on your radar: I'm hoping to remove the fields of
NavigationEntryImpl that are cleared in ResetForCommit and move them elsewhere,
such as this class or the params objects held by it.  Does that seem doable? 
(We shouldn't be relying on NavigationEntry to keep existing between start and
commit.)
