This is bad.  We might be able to get away with it, though.

Normally I'd be worried about these sorts of ownership handoffs.  How do we make
sure this memory gets freed, even if the caller (ie. Java) throws an exception
or otherwise gets into a bad state?

Since this is test code, I'm willing to leave it as is.

I don't have a solution for this. We probably have to live with it.
