There are a ton of Mac failures with imperceptible image differences.  I checked
a few and this looks like the change where using compositing (correctly) forces
alpha=255, but in the legacy software mode you could have alpha=254 due to
blending math issues.

description. If anyone is going to fix this, they can use the bug to track that
