I'm not sure about this DCHECK; I couldn't say it's incorrect to pass a non-null
pointer as 'child' argument, but useless.

At this moment we shouldn't pass any child to them,
at least it's not useful. So I prefer an ASSERT here
so we realize ASAP if we're passing a child by mistake.
