Do we need to merge this into M55 ? We want to push an M55 version of
chrome-remote-desktop soon. What would be the consequences of pushing out this
version without this fix?

This is just the postrm, so not having it would mean some artifacts might get
left behind if chromoting is uninstalled on Ubuntu 16.10. Probably not a big
deal, or likely to be a widespread issue, but also easy to merge to M55, so we
might as well.
