oh, I see the * at the beginning now. (I think the cxx discussion disallowed
non-default ones, but oh well.)

Anyway, there's some \ns missing I think.

There's a )" in this string that's syntactically important, and using the
non-default ones is the least bad thing to do as far as I can see.
