The code previously used the JSON writer incorrectly (needed to use a

Ali, could you please sanity check this? It's a pretty trivial change.

I've also confirmed that this code is indeed not-dead (gab@ asked if this was
the case). If you build debug for chromeos and use, eg, the argument
--trace-to-console="-*,disabled-by-default-cc.debug", this code gets hit.
