Binding is already being used, specifically the |bindValue|, see

and

The division of logic between the cr_search_field_behavior.js and
cr_toolbar_search_field.js (which inherits the behavior), perhaps could be
simplified, but I'd rather not do that as part of fixing this bug. It would
require a bit of work to ensure that no MD page is broken.
