PTAL. The first patchset is a raw re-upload of the original; the second is a
rebase; the third fixes the issue cited in the breakage bug; the fourth fixes
issues with the recently-added coverage test.

Beyond the fix for the specific stack-trace and the compliance with the two test
cases, I have no more evidence that this version is good than the previous
attempt.
