please take a look.

Only reproducing w/ an android fuzzer build, not able to reproduce it locally.

Looking at the testcase, it cannot be ruled out that this is due to multiple
threads attempting to call collectGarbage() concurrently. If so, I'd like to
understand if that's bringing this about somehow, hence the asserts here.
