I'm confused why a number of methods here are "StringF" when they don't support
format args.

I'm not sure what you meants by "support format args". Anyway, in this
particular case, from a caller's pov, it's just selecting single or multiple
case string so that I'm dropping 'F' (even though from an internal
impelementation pov, it's still formatting). I also changed the comment above
the function decl.
