Discussed this a bit more offline with Jesse: I'm a little bit concerned about
introducing this second map, since whenever you have two data structures that
are supposed to be contain the same data, there's always a possibility of
accidentally introducing discrepancy between the two, by forgetting to properly
update one or the other. But the alternative approach (moving as much action as
possible from the IO to the CMA thread) is also tricky, due to having to create
shared memory on the IO thread. So I'm ok with this approach. lgtm.
