why is this cast necessary?

Hmm... odd.  At one point, I was getting a compiler error because updateNode
(line 277) requires an ExtensionFocusRow (and $ presumably returns an
HTMLElement). But trying again, it seems totally fine. Weird.

Removed the cast.
