Add unit tests for the JSON format of several of our object types.

I am going to change the format soon and I wanted testing in place
beforehand.

value is really the prefix of the value right?

you pass in "classes" below and that strips from classes to the end of the
value.

maybe rename it to value_prefix and add a comment.

I wonder if it doesn't make more sense to have stripValue take the key name
instead of the value prefix?
