It would be nice if the README went into more detail on the difference between
this package and [Directory.watch]. Specifically, it should mention that this
package exposes a simpler API that's more uniform across various OSes, and also
that it exposes a polling watcher.

I agree. We both need to tell the difference and that it's heavily using dart:io
(no client side version).
