Two quick suggestions:

(1) It looks like there's a lot of random strings in comments that get sucked in
too.  Maybe prepending a "-e 's/\/\/.*$//'" would help?

(2) [^"] => [^" ] eliminates a few other bad cases (e.g. "--MAP *")
