Animations were deemed nice-to-have and since this project got pushed to M17
(and there is plenty of work left for M16) we decided to take what we have now
and get it in and polish it for M17 (this is all behind a flag anyway).

Yes, same reason as above (pushed to M17). I don't exactly know how the hook
will be implemented, but I suspect it will be a bitmap once it shows up in M17.
