Where does mcov come from?  You didn't write it yourself, did you?  You should
say.

For my curiosity and not necessarily for notation in this file or anything: what
exactly does mcov do for us that lcov itself doesn't?  Obviously something with
paths, but I don't want to read all of mcov and lcov to figure out the
difference.

More comments added to mcov

lcov assumes all gcd* files are in the same directory.
But, with XCode, they get scattered among a number of directories.
mcov "assembles" them together.
