I think the only reason to use the c++ include instead of the c one is to have
the functions in the right namespace.  But, we are already mixing and matching
in this one file.

Consider line 17.  The exit function comes from stdlib.h, just like abort and
atexit.

Can't we do a lot less in this CL by just replacing the c++ include with the
ordinary c ones to keep it simple?
